Jennifer Lopez’s ‘This Is Me Now’ Trailer Leaves Us All Mystified

Jennifer Lopez takes a deeply personal approach to love, fame, and self-discovery in This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, a visually ambitious musical film created as a companion to her first studio album in nearly a decade. Inspired by her 2002 album This Is Me…Then, the project offers Lopez an opportunity to revisit the experiences that shaped her while presenting her story from her own perspective.

Rather than revealing a traditional movie plot, the trailer delivers a dazzling collection of surreal images, elaborate musical performances, romance, fantasy, and unexpected celebrity appearances. It gives viewers only small clues about the story while creating plenty of questions about what everything means.

The project is particularly significant because of the attention Lopez has received throughout her career regarding her romantic relationships. Her highly publicized relationship with Ben Affleck in the early 2000s became a constant subject of media attention, and the couple's eventual reunion and marriage brought that chapter of her life back into the spotlight.

With This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, Lopez appears ready to explore those experiences on her own terms. The film isn't intended to be a straightforward biography, but instead uses fictionalized storytelling, mythology, music, and fantasy to examine her complicated relationship with love.

The trailer begins with Lopez riding a motorcycle across what appears to be a frozen lake. She then appears in a series of striking situations, including a wedding, a dark train station, a colorful musical sequence, and a futuristic world featuring a giant metallic heart. At one point, she even appears in an astronaut suit as the imagery becomes increasingly surreal.

There are also moments that bring the story closer to reality. Lopez is shown speaking with a therapist, while her friends stage an intervention surrounding her relationship with love and intimacy. These scenes suggest that beneath the extravagant visuals is a more intimate story about understanding herself and confronting patterns from her past.

The film's visual style is just as ambitious as its subject matter. Directed by Dave Meyers, who has created music videos for major artists including Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Ariana Grande, BTS, and Megan Thee Stallion, the project combines elaborate choreography with cinematic production design. The result is something that looks more like a feature-length visual album than a conventional romantic movie.

Lopez is also joined by a remarkable group of celebrity guests, including Trevor Noah, Keke Palmer, Sofía Vergara, Derek Hough, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Sadhguru, and Ben Affleck. Their appearances add another layer of mystery to a project that deliberately refuses to explain everything in its trailer.

At its core, This Is Me…Now: A Love Story appears to be about Lopez's lifelong search for romantic love and her growing understanding of self-love. The story challenges the idea that being vulnerable or believing in romance makes someone weak. Instead, Lopez presents her romantic nature as an important part of who she is.

The project also represents a chance for Lopez to reclaim a narrative that has often been shaped by tabloids and public speculation. After years of having her relationships discussed by the media, she is now using music and film to explore her experiences through her own creative vision.

This Is Me…Now: A Love Story premiered on Prime Video on February 16, 2024, alongside Lopez's album This Is Me…Now. Combining music, fantasy, romance, and autobiography, the project offers fans a unique look at one of Jennifer Lopez's most personal artistic chapters.

My list of must-try jean trends for 2026 is growing; it currently includes all the silhouettes one denim expert revealed to me as the must-watch of the year (save for baggy jeans, because I’ve been wearing those for years). That said, one style that didn’t land on said aforementioned list, but is clearly due for big, big things this year, is flare jeans. With a growing list of celebrity fans that includes Meghan Markle, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Cindy Crawford, Kendrick Lamar (you know that moment), and, of course, Amal Clooney, there’s no denying the retro denim style that was popular in the early aughts is back—and bigger than ever.

The fact that Clooney wore flared jeans is noteworthy in and of itself. The human rights lawyer is known for her refined dressing approach, regularly opting for billowy trousers, trendy boho blouses, and comfy sweater dresses—all staples that read elegant and timeless. So, when I spotted her earlier this year in the laid-back blues while out to dinner with hubby George Clooney, I knew I had to write about it. Of course, the fact that she wore flare jeans, the style countless celebs have worn the last few weeks, is noteworthy, too, as it further cements the style’s ‘It’ status for 2026.

Clooney opted for a pair of medium-wash jeans with subtle fading (another Y2K reference, IMO). Her blues had an ultra-high waist—so high, in fact, that they appeared to hit at the ribcage. It’s the complete opposite of the controversial low-rise denim, so it’s a possible sign that the high-high waist is coming back, too. Not to mention, Clooney’s jeans had a slightly oversized fit from the thighs to the ankles, but it’s that flared hem that has all my attention; it’s taking me back to my middle school days when I’d wear my True Religion flares every single day. (No joke.)

It’s undeniable that Clooney’s jeans have that nostalgic flair (ahem, flare, wink, wink), but it’s also undeniable that celebs are clamoring to the style because it’s incredibly flattering. The blues basically act like an optical illusion, making legs look super long, especially when paired with a style that has an extra-long hemline and sky-high platforms á la Lopez; the singer is 5-feet-5-inches, but don’t you agree with me that she looks way taller in these jeans? Yeah, that’s thanks to the flares. The flare hem and longer inseams help create the look of legs for days, but add in a high-waisted cut, platform heels, and a crop top, and you’ll fool people into thinking you’re inches taller.

Leg-elongating factor aside, there’s no denying that flares are fun and nostalgia-inducing—and that’s exactly what I need right now. So, shop some more fun, funky flares from Frame, NYDJ, and Mavi below.
