Netflix removing the film now is even more surprising because the original saw a big resurgence after the reboot hit theaters. The story follows two best friends who dream of remaking their favorite movie, which happens to be the original Anaconda. The original film follows Terri Flores (Jennifer Lopez), a documentary filmmaker traveling through the Amazon in search of a long-lost indigenous tribe. Along the journey, her crew encounters a man seemingly stranded along the river, and he offers to guide them through the jungle. At first, he appears helpful, but his strange and secretive behavior slowly creates tension among the group. And it soon becomes clear that he is using the crew as bait to hunt down a legendary anaconda rumored to be worth a fortune.

The 2025 Anaconda reboot has turned into a big win for Sony. The film has officially crossed $100 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of $45 million. As of January 13, it has reached a global total of $109.9 million and is still holding strong during the usually quiet month of January. This performance is especially impressive given the heavy competition from box office juggernaut Avatar: Fire and Ash, along with new releases like The Housemaid, Primate, and Greenland 2: Migration.

The 1997 Anaconda is currently available to stream on Netflix until February 1. The 2025 Anaconda reboot is still playing in theaters and is set to arrive for digital purchase on March 10.
