Office Romance will feature a Selena reunion. The upcoming Netflix movie, which was written by Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein with the Apple TV series' co-creator Joe Kelly, is currently in production under the auspices of director Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Ticket to Paradise). The plot of the movie, which co-stars Goldstein and multihyphenate musical artist and movie star Jennifer Lopez (Maid in Manhattan, Hustlers, the upcoming Kiss of the Spider-Woman), is currently under wraps beyond the fact that it follows the love blossoming between an anti-office-romance airline CEO and a handsome lawyer she employs.
On their official X account, Netflix has announced that Edward James Olmos has joined the cast of Office Romance as Jennifer Lopez's character's father. He previously portrayed her father in 1997's Selena, the iconic biopic in which she played Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla and he played her complicated father, Abraham Quintanilla, opposite a cast that also included Jon Seda, Constance Marie, Jacob Vargas, Lupe Ontiveros, and Jackie Guerra. The announcement features the duo recreating an iconic image from the 1997 movie. See the original post below:
What This Means For Office Romance
The Movie Marks A Major Reunion
The new Jennifer Lopez movie now marks the first time that she has performed onscreen with Edward James Olmos since they both appeared in Selena nearly 30 years ago. However, the 1997 movie was not their first collaboration. They had previously co-starred as family members in 1995's My Family, in which Olmos played Francisco “Paco” Sánchez and Lopez played the younger version of his mother Maria Sánchez, who was portrayed in the majority of the film by Jenny Gago.
Additionally, this casting update for the Netflix rom-com honors the legacy of Jennifer Lopez's career. Although she has starred in many major movies since Selena, that project was the one that launched her acting career after she got her start as a dancer. Jennifer Lopez's Selena also served as proof of concept for her future music career. Even though the movie featured her lip syncing to the original vocal tracks, it proved her onstage charisma and her ability to connect with a live audience.
Our Take On The Office Romance Casting Update
It Could Help The Netflix Movie Become A Hit
The fact that Office Romance features such an important reunion could help draw even more eyes to the project, helping it become a major hit for Netflix. Should that be the case, it would add to Lopez's stellar track record with the platform. Her previous Netflix movie, the 2023 action feature The Mother, was viewed for more than 230 million hours and at one time was the platform's sixth most-watched movie of all time, though it has since been superceded by other titles such as Back in Action, Damsel, and Carry-On.

My list of must-try jean trends for 2026 is growing; it currently includes all the silhouettes one denim expert revealed to me as the must-watch of the year (save for baggy jeans, because I’ve been wearing those for years). That said, one style that didn’t land on said aforementioned list, but is clearly due for big, big things this year, is flare jeans. With a growing list of celebrity fans that includes Meghan Markle, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Cindy Crawford, Kendrick Lamar (you know that moment), and, of course, Amal Clooney, there’s no denying the retro denim style that was popular in the early aughts is back—and bigger than ever.
The fact that Clooney wore flared jeans is noteworthy in and of itself. The human rights lawyer is known for her refined dressing approach, regularly opting for billowy trousers, trendy boho blouses, and comfy sweater dresses—all staples that read elegant and timeless. So, when I spotted her earlier this year in the laid-back blues while out to dinner with hubby George Clooney, I knew I had to write about it. Of course, the fact that she wore flare jeans, the style countless celebs have worn the last few weeks, is noteworthy, too, as it further cements the style’s ‘It’ status for 2026.

Clooney opted for a pair of medium-wash jeans with subtle fading (another Y2K reference, IMO). Her blues had an ultra-high waist—so high, in fact, that they appeared to hit at the ribcage. It’s the complete opposite of the controversial low-rise denim, so it’s a possible sign that the high-high waist is coming back, too. Not to mention, Clooney’s jeans had a slightly oversized fit from the thighs to the ankles, but it’s that flared hem that has all my attention; it’s taking me back to my middle school days when I’d wear my True Religion flares every single day. (No joke.)

It’s undeniable that Clooney’s jeans have that nostalgic flair (ahem, flare, wink, wink), but it’s also undeniable that celebs are clamoring to the style because it’s incredibly flattering. The blues basically act like an optical illusion, making legs look super long, especially when paired with a style that has an extra-long hemline and sky-high platforms á la Lopez; the singer is 5-feet-5-inches, but don’t you agree with me that she looks way taller in these jeans? Yeah, that’s thanks to the flares. The flare hem and longer inseams help create the look of legs for days, but add in a high-waisted cut, platform heels, and a crop top, and you’ll fool people into thinking you’re inches taller.
Leg-elongating factor aside, there’s no denying that flares are fun and nostalgia-inducing—and that’s exactly what I need right now. So, shop some more fun, funky flares from Frame, NYDJ, and Mavi below.
