Jennifer Lopez has starred in a handful of critically acclaimed movies, like Selena and Hustlers, but Lopez's Rotten Tomatoes scores in the past couple of years exhibit a disappointing pattern that can be broken via her next film. The actress' most recent project was Atlas, a Netflix science fiction action movie directed by Brad Peyton and written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite, which premiered in May 2024. Lopez starred as the lead character, Atlas Shepherd, a counterterrorism analyst who must go against her anti-AI beliefs to save humanity. While Atlas is trending on Netflix, its reviews have been subpar.
Unfortunately, Atlas's Rotten Tomatoes score debuted as one of Lopez's worst-rated movies ever, and the bad news is that it is only the latest of the actress's films to receive poor scores on the review-aggregation website since 2023. Many of Lopez's movies are still popular despite bad reviews (e.g. Atlas), but it's undoubtedly still disheartening to see a plethora of "Rotten" scores on the actress's Rotten Tomatoes page. Nevertheless, Lopez pushes on, and her next film could easily change the tides for her.
Unstoppable Can Break Jennifer Lopez's Current Rotten Tomatoes Trend
The Actress's Recent Streaming Movies Have Gotten "Rotten" Scores

Jennifer Lopez is set to star in Unstoppable, an Amazon biographical sports film that has yet to receive a release date. Based on the upcoming movie's subject material, cast, and production team, it has the bones to be Lopez's best streaming project in the past few years. Since the premiere of Shotgun Wedding in 2023, Lopez's streaming films have earned poor Tomatometer scores on Rotten Tomatoes (without counting This Is Me… Now: A Love Story, the complimentary movie to her 2024 album), with the Netflix movie Atlas being the worst by a wide margin. But Unstoppable can break that streak.
Movie | Release Date | Streaming Platform | Tomatometer | Audience Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Shotgun Wedding | January 27, 2023 | Amazon Prime Video | 44% | 51% |
The Mother | May 12, 2023 | Netflix | 43% | 62% |
Atlas | May 24, 2024 | Netflix | 17% | 52% |
Unstoppable is directed by William Goldenberg (an Oscar winning film editor), written by John Hindman, and produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon through their production company, Artists Equity. It is based on Anthony Robles and Austin Murphy's 2012 book Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion, which chronicles Robles' inspiring true story as a wrestler who was born with only one leg. Aside from Lopez, the Unstoppable cast includes Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, and Don Cheadle.
What To Expect From Jennifer Lopez's Role In Unstoppable
Unstoppable Is Produced By Lopez's Husband, Ben Affleck
Unfortunately, not much is known about the upcoming biographical sports drama other than its source material and a couple of the roles. Jennifer Lopez is set to star as Judy Robles, Anthony's mother, in Unstoppable, while Jharrel Jerome plays the young wrestler. Other than that, those who are eager to learn more about Unstoppable will have to wait for Amazon to release a trailer or drop any other pertinent information about the movie.

My list of must-try jean trends for 2026 is growing; it currently includes all the silhouettes one denim expert revealed to me as the must-watch of the year (save for baggy jeans, because I’ve been wearing those for years). That said, one style that didn’t land on said aforementioned list, but is clearly due for big, big things this year, is flare jeans. With a growing list of celebrity fans that includes Meghan Markle, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Cindy Crawford, Kendrick Lamar (you know that moment), and, of course, Amal Clooney, there’s no denying the retro denim style that was popular in the early aughts is back—and bigger than ever.
The fact that Clooney wore flared jeans is noteworthy in and of itself. The human rights lawyer is known for her refined dressing approach, regularly opting for billowy trousers, trendy boho blouses, and comfy sweater dresses—all staples that read elegant and timeless. So, when I spotted her earlier this year in the laid-back blues while out to dinner with hubby George Clooney, I knew I had to write about it. Of course, the fact that she wore flare jeans, the style countless celebs have worn the last few weeks, is noteworthy, too, as it further cements the style’s ‘It’ status for 2026.

Clooney opted for a pair of medium-wash jeans with subtle fading (another Y2K reference, IMO). Her blues had an ultra-high waist—so high, in fact, that they appeared to hit at the ribcage. It’s the complete opposite of the controversial low-rise denim, so it’s a possible sign that the high-high waist is coming back, too. Not to mention, Clooney’s jeans had a slightly oversized fit from the thighs to the ankles, but it’s that flared hem that has all my attention; it’s taking me back to my middle school days when I’d wear my True Religion flares every single day. (No joke.)
Gap High-Rise ‘70s Flare Jeans

It’s undeniable that Clooney’s jeans have that nostalgic flair (ahem, flare, wink, wink), but it’s also undeniable that celebs are clamoring to the style because it’s incredibly flattering. The blues basically act like an optical illusion, making legs look super long, especially when paired with a style that has an extra-long hemline and sky-high platforms á la Lopez; the singer is 5-feet-5-inches, but don’t you agree with me that she looks way taller in these jeans? Yeah, that’s thanks to the flares. The flare hem and longer inseams help create the look of legs for days, but add in a high-waisted cut, platform heels, and a crop top, and you’ll fool people into thinking you’re inches taller.
Leg-elongating factor aside, there’s no denying that flares are fun and nostalgia-inducing—and that’s exactly what I need right now. So, shop some more fun, funky flares from Frame, NYDJ, and Mavi below.
