Jennifer Lopez's New R-Rated Film Takes Streaming by Storm—Here's How

Jennifer Lopez's new R-rated movie is flying high on Netflix.

Between the music biopic Selena, Maid in Manhattan and countless other romantic comedies, the campy horror of Anaconda, the crime-comedy-drama Hustlers, the action thriller The Mother, the science-fiction Atlas, and the musical remake of Kiss of the Spider Woman, Jennifer Lopez's movies cover a wide range of genres.

Lopez has now returned to romantic comedies in the raunchy R-rated Netflix movie Office Romance. She plays Jackie Cruz, a high-powered CEO of Air Cruz who finds herself falling for one of her airline's lawyers, Daniel Blanchflower (Brett Goldstein). The problem is that the company has a strict policy that forbids co-workers from dating, and Air Cruz is also in the middle of a legal dispute that involves allegations about Jackie's personal life.

Only one day after coming to Netflix, Office Romance is now the number one movie on the streaming service's global and U.S. charts. Worldwide, it is ahead of The Murder of Rachel Nickell, Swapped, Ladies First, The Marked Woman, Creed III, Goat, Maa Behen, Speak No Evil, and The Babysitter. In the U.S., it is outperforming David, The Murder of Rachel Nickell, Goat, Bee Movie, Fast Charlie, The Crash, Passengers, Creed III, and Creed.

This is a continuation of Lopez's movies performing well on Netflix. 2023's The Mother previously joined Netflix's Top 10 of most-watched films of all time, although it has since been pushed out by other competition, and Atlas was also a major streaming hit that went to the top of the charts following its debut. Her production company, Nuyorican Productions, has a partnership with Netflix, which has led to The Mother, Atlas, and now Office Romance.

While Lopez's enduring star power is a significant draw, Office Romance also has the appeal of featuring Goldstein, who co-wrote the romantic comedy's script with Joe Kelly. It was previously revealed that they wrote the script with Lopez in mind for the role of Jackie. The movie's release timing is ideal, as Goldstein is reprising the role of the Ted Lasso fan-favorite character Roy Kent for season 4 of the sports comedy series, with the August 5 debut coming soon.

Despite the immediate streaming dominance, Office Romance's reviews have not been as strong, leading to a 50% critics' score and a 57% audience score as of this writing. ScreenRant's review by Alex Harrison is more positive, though, as he gives the movie seven out of 10 stars and writes that "Goldstein channels some of the she's-out-of-your-league dynamic in his performance, but doesn't lose himself in it, and the film is unafraid to push a joke further than you might've expected it to go."

Lopez and Goldstein are also surrounded by a star-studded cast in Office Romance, which includes Betty Gilpin as Sydney Bloom, Bradley Whitford as Peter Vance, Tony Hale as George Dudek, Mary Wiseman as Clair, Edward James Olmos as Captain Jack Cruz, Jodie Whittaker as Lizzy, Roger Bart as William Butten, and Amy Sedaris as Julie Shatz. Olmos is playing the father of Lopez's character, just as he did 29 years earlier in Selena. The movie is directed by Ol Parker, whose prior credits include Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Ticket to Paradise.

Office Romance is now streaming on Netflix.

My list of must-try jean trends for 2026 is growing; it currently includes all the silhouettes one denim expert revealed to me as the must-watch of the year (save for baggy jeans, because I’ve been wearing those for years). That said, one style that didn’t land on said aforementioned list, but is clearly due for big, big things this year, is flare jeans. With a growing list of celebrity fans that includes Meghan Markle, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Cindy Crawford, Kendrick Lamar (you know that moment), and, of course, Amal Clooney, there’s no denying the retro denim style that was popular in the early aughts is back—and bigger than ever.

The fact that Clooney wore flared jeans is noteworthy in and of itself. The human rights lawyer is known for her refined dressing approach, regularly opting for billowy trousers, trendy boho blouses, and comfy sweater dresses—all staples that read elegant and timeless. So, when I spotted her earlier this year in the laid-back blues while out to dinner with hubby George Clooney, I knew I had to write about it. Of course, the fact that she wore flare jeans, the style countless celebs have worn the last few weeks, is noteworthy, too, as it further cements the style’s ‘It’ status for 2026.

Clooney opted for a pair of medium-wash jeans with subtle fading (another Y2K reference, IMO). Her blues had an ultra-high waist—so high, in fact, that they appeared to hit at the ribcage. It’s the complete opposite of the controversial low-rise denim, so it’s a possible sign that the high-high waist is coming back, too. Not to mention, Clooney’s jeans had a slightly oversized fit from the thighs to the ankles, but it’s that flared hem that has all my attention; it’s taking me back to my middle school days when I’d wear my True Religion flares every single day. (No joke.)

It’s undeniable that Clooney’s jeans have that nostalgic flair (ahem, flare, wink, wink), but it’s also undeniable that celebs are clamoring to the style because it’s incredibly flattering. The blues basically act like an optical illusion, making legs look super long, especially when paired with a style that has an extra-long hemline and sky-high platforms á la Lopez; the singer is 5-feet-5-inches, but don’t you agree with me that she looks way taller in these jeans? Yeah, that’s thanks to the flares. The flare hem and longer inseams help create the look of legs for days, but add in a high-waisted cut, platform heels, and a crop top, and you’ll fool people into thinking you’re inches taller.

Leg-elongating factor aside, there’s no denying that flares are fun and nostalgia-inducing—and that’s exactly what I need right now. So, shop some more fun, funky flares from Frame, NYDJ, and Mavi below.
