Your Complete Guide to Watching Shotgun Wedding with J.Lo and Duhamel

From The Wedding Planner in 2001 to Marry Me in 2022, Jennifer Lopez has built a strong reputation for starring in wedding-centered romantic comedies. Shotgun Wedding continues that tradition while adding a major dose of action. Lopez plays Darcy, who travels to a luxurious tropical island with her fiancé, Tom, played by Josh Duhamel, for what is supposed to be the perfect wedding celebration.

The couple’s special day already has its share of complications. Darcy must deal with Tom’s affectionate but overbearing mother, Carol, portrayed by Jennifer Coolidge, while her charming former boyfriend Sean, played by Lenny Kravitz, is also among the guests. However, their relationship problems suddenly become insignificant when armed criminals invade the wedding and take everyone hostage.

Darcy and Tom manage to avoid being captured and are forced into an unexpected mission to rescue their loved ones. The pair must put aside their doubts about marriage and work together against the attackers. Their journey turns a romantic destination wedding into a chaotic adventure involving weapons, dangerous escapes, and plenty of comedic situations.

Jennifer Lopez has successfully moved between music and acting throughout her career, accumulating an extensive list of film and television credits. After returning to the romantic comedy genre with Marry Me in 2022, she once again embraced the wedding theme with Shotgun Wedding, although this time the formula includes considerably more action.

The movie was directed by Jason Moore, best known for Pitch Perfect, with Mark Hammer writing the screenplay. The cast also includes Sonia Braga, Cheech Marin, D’Arcy Carden, and other familiar performers who contribute to the movie’s eccentric ensemble.

Unlike some of Lopez’s previous romantic comedies, Shotgun Wedding was not planned for a traditional theatrical release. Instead, Amazon Studios chose to release the movie exclusively through Prime Video. It premiered on January 27, 2023, giving viewers the opportunity to watch the wedding chaos from home.

The movie’s trailers showcase the unusual combination of romance, comedy, and action. Darcy and Tom’s wedding quickly descends into mayhem after the armed group takes control of the celebration. The couple respond by using whatever they can find to fight back, including improvised weapons and even cake knives. Carol also gets involved, proving that she is far more capable of handling danger than anyone might expect.

For viewers who enjoy Jennifer Lopez’s wedding-themed comedies, several earlier movies are worth revisiting. The Wedding Planner from 2001 follows Lopez as Mary Fiore, a professional wedding planner who unexpectedly falls for a man whose wedding she has been hired to organize.

Monster-in-Law, released in 2005, puts Lopez in the middle of a battle with her future mother-in-law, played by Jane Fonda. Their constant clashes create the movie’s central source of comedy.

Marry Me from 2022 offers another unusual romantic setup. Lopez plays a famous musician who discovers that her fiancé has been unfaithful just before their public wedding. In an impulsive moment, she chooses a stranger from the audience, played by Owen Wilson, and asks him to marry her instead.

With Shotgun Wedding, Lopez once again turns wedding complications into romantic comedy, but this time adds pirates, gunfights, and high-stakes action to the formula.

My list of must-try jean trends for 2026 is growing; it currently includes all the silhouettes one denim expert revealed to me as the must-watch of the year (save for baggy jeans, because I’ve been wearing those for years). With a growing list of celebrity fans that includes Meghan Markle, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Cindy Crawford, Kendrick Lamar (you know that moment), and, of course, Amal Clooney, there’s no denying the retro denim style that was popular in the early aughts is back—and bigger than ever.

The fact that Clooney wore flared jeans is noteworthy in and of itself. The human rights lawyer is known for her refined dressing approach, regularly opting for billowy trousers, trendy boho blouses, and comfy sweater dresses—all staples that read elegant and timeless. So, when I spotted her earlier this year in the laid-back blues while out to dinner with hubby George Clooney, I knew I had to write about it. Of course, the fact that she wore flare jeans, the style countless celebs have worn the last few weeks, is noteworthy, too, as it further cements the style’s ‘It’ status for 2026.

Clooney opted for a pair of medium-wash jeans with subtle fading (another Y2K reference, IMO). Her blues had an ultra-high waist—so high, in fact, that they appeared to hit at the ribcage. It’s the complete opposite of the controversial low-rise denim, so it’s a possible sign that the high-high waist is coming back, too. Not to mention, Clooney’s jeans had a slightly oversized fit from the thighs to the ankles, but it’s that flared hem that has all my attention; it’s taking me back to my middle school days when I’d wear my True Religion flares every single day. (No joke.)

It’s undeniable that Clooney’s jeans have that nostalgic flair (ahem, flare, wink, wink), but it’s also undeniable that celebs are clamoring to the style because it’s incredibly flattering. The blues basically act like an optical illusion, making legs look super long, especially when paired with a style that has an extra-long hemline and sky-high platforms á la Lopez; the singer is 5-feet-5-inches, but don’t you agree with me that she looks way taller in these jeans? Yeah, that’s thanks to the flares. The flare hem and longer inseams help create the look of legs for days, but add in a high-waisted cut, platform heels, and a crop top, and you’ll fool people into thinking you’re inches taller.
