Diego Luna's Unexpected Oscars Opportunity After Shocking Emmy Snub

After what many considered one of the most egregious Emmy snubs of all time, Diego Luna will have a chance at a different type of Awards gold early next year. Luna is due to star opposite Tonatiuh and Jennifer Lopez in Kiss of the Spider Woman, the political/prison drama that’s coming to theaters on October 10. News broke yesterday evening that Lionsgate is already planning an Oscars campaign for Luna and both co-stars, Lopez and Tonatiuh, for their respective performances in Kiss of a Spider Woman. The film was written and directed by Dreamgirls filmmaker Bill Condon, and it’s both a remake of the 1985 film of the same name and an adaptation of Manuel Puig’s novel.

Star Wars fans were stunned that Luna did not receive a nomination for his performance in the hit political thriller series, Andor, even though his work as a producer did net him another nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Luna’s performance as Cassian Andor is not only viewed as one of the strongest the Star Wars franchise has ever produced, but also one of the best of the year thus far. He first played Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016, which Andor is a prequel to.

As for his co-stars, it would also be the first time Jennifer Lopez earned an Oscar nomination in her career, which spans more than 20 years. She did, however, earn an Emmy nomination several years ago for her work with Shakira on the Super Bowl LIV halftime show. Tonatiuh gained momentum last year with his performance in Carry-On, and if he earns a nomination, he would be only the fifth Latino man in history to do so.

Will There Be Another Season of ‘Andor’?

There will not be another season of Andor, which was billed and announced as a two-season prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The show even leads directly into the events of the 2016 Star Wars film, so there would be no more room to continue the story that hasn’t already been told. The only way for Luna’s Cassian Andor to return to Star Wars would be in a prequel story, but considering Andor tells his journey with the Rebellion from the very beginning, this would seem quite forced. Andor was written and created by Tony Gilroy, who also famously reworked most of Rogue One.

The fact that Clooney wore flared jeans is noteworthy in and of itself. The human rights lawyer is known for her refined dressing approach, regularly opting for billowy trousers, trendy boho blouses, and comfy sweater dresses—all staples that read elegant and timeless. So, when I spotted her earlier this year in the laid-back blues while out to dinner with hubby George Clooney, I knew I had to write about it. Of course, the fact that she wore flare jeans, the style countless celebs have worn the last few weeks, is noteworthy, too, as it further cements the style’s ‘It’ status for 2026.
