Seth Rogen clarified that Emma Watson did not storm off the set of This Is The End. Written and directed by Seth Rogen and his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg, This Is The End is a 2013 apocalyptic comedy. The film features an ensemble cast who all portray various fictionalized versions of themselves, including James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson. Other actors and celebrities such as Channing Tatum, Rihanna, and Emma Watson also make guest appearances.
This clarification from Rogen comes after a recent interview with GQ in which he was asked about the persistent rumor that Watson “stormed off the set” of This Is The End after refusing to shoot a rather risqué scene. The scene in question involved McBride as a cannibal and Tatum as his gimp on a leash. In the interview, Rogen did not explicitly deny the rumor that Watson walked off the set and said there were “no hard feelings,” which many interpreted as Rogen confirming the rumor.

Now, Rogen is taking to Twitter to correct the record and clear up any misunderstandings. In his statement, Rogen says the GQ interview “misrepresents what actually happened” and says plainly, “Emma Watson did not storm off the set.” Rogen goes on to explain the scene in question was not originally scripted and was improvised, and therefore not agreed to beforehand by Watson. Rogen says Watson was completely professional throughout the whole ordeal and the situation was caused by a lack of communication. He ended the statement by apologizing for the entire situation. Although Rogen and Watson agreed that she would not appear in the aforementioned scene with McBride and Tatum, she did end up having a cameo appearance in the film. Watson eventually makes her way to safety at James Franco’s house, but due to a misunderstanding, believes the group is plotting to rape her. Watson then unleashes a profanity-laced tirade and threatens the group with an ax before leaving with some of their supplies.
In light of Rogen’s clarification, there seems to have been a lot less controversy onset than many had originally believed. Watson was simply not comfortable with shooting a certain scene and Rogen seems to have respected the actress’s boundaries completely. Hopefully, this will put an end to any dispute about whether Watson walked off the set of This Is The End.
