Russell Crowe’s historical epic is sailing off streaming very soon.
After rising to fame for L.A. Confidential (1997) and The Insider (1999), earning his first Oscar nomination for the latter, Crowe became a big star with Ridley Scott’s historical epic Gladiator (2000), which earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor. Further acclaim followed for A Beautiful Mind (2001), earning him another Oscar nomination. Since Gladiator, he has starred in several more historical epics – such as Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003), Robin Hood (2010), and Noah (2014) – one of which is set to sail off streaming very soon.
After seeing much success, Noah is set to sail off streaming in just three days. Directed by Oscar nominee Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), based on the biblical story of Noah’s Ark, the 2014 film follows Russell Crowe as the eponymous man who must build an ark big enough for two of every animal on Earth before an apocalyptic flood.
Now, according to JustWatch, Noah is leaving Peacock in three days, at the end of April. After that, it won’t be available to watch on Peacock, though it is also streaming for free with ads on Pluto TV, and is also available on a service called Vix, which requires a subscription.
Other than Russell Crowe in the lead role, Noah‘s cast also includes Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind), Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, two-time Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs, The Father), Douglas Booth, Finn Wittrock, Gavin Casalegno, Marton Csokas, and Madison Davenport. Appearing in voice roles are Frank Langella, Nick Nolte, Mark Margolis, and Kevin Durand.
Noah received mostly positive reviews, resulting in a 75% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics praising Darren Aronofsky for reimagining the biblical epic for a modern audience while keeping its story intimate and human, driven by powerful performances and striking visuals. Noah also made over $359 million at the box office worldwide, becoming Darren Aronofsky’s highest-grossing movie to date.
Noah did divide audiences, however, as indicated by its 41% score from that group, sparking controversy over what many saw as environmental political themes and a heavy reliance on non-biblical sources for inspiration, including the Book of Enoch. The movie was barred from release in China for religious reasons and also banned in several Muslim-majority countries due to its portrayal of prophets revered in Islam.
It also stirred debate among Christians, largely over its reliance on sources outside the Bible, especially the Book of Enoch, rather than focusing solely on Genesis. The film drew heavily from Enoch’s version of the flood narrative, including elements such as the Nephilim. However, over the next three days, audiences can go and watch Noah on Peacock and form their opinions before it leaves streaming for good.
