Malala Yousafzai Reveals the Heartfelt Reason She Finally Embraces the Word ‘Feminist’ During Emotional Chat with Emma Watson

When a Hollywood icon sits down with a global hero, you expect inspiration—but no one expected a moment quite this moving.

A video of Emma Watson interviewing Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai is shattering the internet after the activist made a surprising admission about the “F-word”: feminism.

The pair sat down at the Into Film Festival to discuss the documentary He Named Me Malala, but the conversation quickly shifted from the screen to the heart of the movement for gender equality.

In a post shared to her Facebook page, Watson, , described the young activist as “utterly graceful, compelling and intelligent.”

However, the standout moment that has fans reaching for the tissues came when Malala revealed she was once wary of the word “feminist” until she watched Emma’s now-legendary U.N. Women speech.

“Interestingly, this word feminism, it has been a very tricky word, and when I heard it the first time I heard some negative responses,” Malala told a visibly touched Watson.

The activist admitted that the stigma surrounding the term made her pause. “I hesitated in saying, ‘Am I a feminist or not?’”

But everything changed when she saw the Harry Potter alum take the stage for the HeForShe campaign.

“After hearing your speech when you said, ‘If not now, when? If not me, who?’ I decided that… there’s nothing wrong with calling yourself a feminist,” Malala shared. “So I am a feminist and we all should be feminists because feminism is another word for equality.”

Watson, who has been a tireless advocate for gender parity, admitted in her post that the admission was the “most moving” part of her day.

The actress noted that while feminism can often be a “controversial” and “factionalized” movement, seeing Malala embrace the term proves its true power.

“Let’s not make it scary to say you’re a feminist,” Watson wrote to her followers. “I want to make it a welcoming and inclusive movement.”

Beyond the viral “feminist” reveal, Malala stayed true to the mission that made her a household name, urging the world to never take education for granted.

She recalled the terrifying moment at age when she was stopped from going to school in Pakistan.

“I just could not go to school, I could not believe that for the rest of my life I wouldn’t be able to study at all,” she shared. “That was the stage when I realized that education is really important for every child.”

Even as a world leader who has met with the most powerful figures on earth, Malala admitted she still gets “really scared” speaking in front of students at school.

However, when it comes to advocating for the million girls currently out of school, her fear completely vanishes.

“If it was meeting the president of America, Barack Obama, or anyone, I say things very, very clearly,” she said. “Because it’s not for me, it’s for children and their future.”

The interview has since sparked a massive wave of support across X and Instagram, with fans hailing the two as the ultimate “power duo.”

As Watson put it in her post: “Malala and I are pretty serious about it but we need you.”

Unexpected Team-Up: Prince William and Emma Watson Unite for Change

Prince William had plenty to celebrate this weekend, but his latest public appearance quickly turned heads for a very different reason. After marking his 44th birthday and Father's Day with his family, the future king returned to royal duties—and made a surprisingly personal confession about the emotional toll of climate change.

William joined Hollywood stars Emma Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch at a United for Wildlife forum in London, an initiative he launched with the Royal Foundation in 2013. The organization works around the world to combat wildlife trafficking, environmental crime, and the destruction of endangered species.

But it was William's candid admission about his own fears that stole the spotlight.

The Prince of Wales revealed that climate change has caused him "sleepless nights," admitting he has struggled with anxiety about what the future could look like. Yet instead of allowing those fears to overwhelm him, William said seeing real progress through conservation efforts has helped keep his environmental anxiety under control.

He also delivered a powerful message to business leaders, urging them to become the kind of leaders they admired when they were children. With technology and innovation transforming the world at an incredible pace, William challenged CEOs to use their influence to create meaningful change.

The event launched London Climate Action Week, with more royal appearances expected, including the Earthshot Prize assembly.

Emma Watson also delivered a surprising revelation of her own. The Harry Potter star highlighted the fashion industry's enormous environmental impact, pointing out that it produces more emissions than aviation and ranks behind only oil among major polluting industries.

Watson, who is also pursuing a doctorate in philosophy at Oxford, shared a hilarious story about mistakenly believing paparazzi were following her. After spotting photographers with telephoto lenses, she arranged a distraction and escaped through another exit. The twist? They weren't photographing her at all. They were waiting to capture a red kite.

Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch praised William as "a great guy" and urged businesses and individuals to recognize that they can still make a difference, even when global environmental challenges appear overwhelming.

With William, Watson, and Cumberbatch joining forces on the issue, the London forum delivered a clear message: the fight against environmental destruction is becoming impossible for the world's biggest names to ignore.
