J.K. Rowling Criticizes Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson Over Their Support for Trans Rights

The tension within the halls of the Wizarding World just hit a breaking point, and this time, it feels permanent.

J.K. Rowling is making headlines once again for her controversial stance on transgender rights, but her latest comments have taken a sharp, personal turn. The Harry Potter author is directly calling out the franchise’s biggest stars: Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson.

In a series of viral posts on X (formerly Twitter), Rowling signaled a deep divide between herself and the actors who brought Harry and Hermione to life, suggesting that the bridge between them might be burned for good.

The online firestorm ignited when Rowling responded to a new report regarding gender care treatments for young people. When a follower suggested that Radcliffe and Watson owed the author “a very public apology” and presumed she would forgive them, Rowling was quick to shut the idea down.

“Not safe, I’m afraid,” Rowling replied, taking a sharp jab at her former colleagues.

She didn’t stop there. Rowling continued by targeting “celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors.”

The author concluded the exchange with a stinging dismissal, telling her follower that those celebrities can “save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women.”

This isn’t the first time the trio has been at odds, as the rift has been brewing for years. The tension first began in when Rowling faced global backlash for ridiculing the phrase “people who menstruate.”

At the time, Daniel Radcliffe—a longtime supporter of the LGBTQ+ suicide prevention organization The Trevor Project—made his stance crystal clear in a heartfelt essay that quickly went viral.

“Transgender women are women,” Radcliffe wrote. “Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.”

Emma Watson was equally vocal, taking to social media to send love directly to her fans and the community.

“Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned,” Watson tweeted. “I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.”

While Rowling continues to defend her position, the viral nature of this latest exchange has left Harry Potter fans deeply torn. Many have taken to TikTok and X to discuss the legacy of the beloved series in light of the creator’s latest comments.

For now, the magic seems to have faded between the stars and the creator of the series they helped make a global phenomenon.

As the public battle continues, it appears both sides remain firmly on opposite ends of an emotional—and very public—divide.

Unexpected Team-Up: Prince William and Emma Watson Unite for Change

Prince William had plenty to celebrate this weekend, but his latest public appearance quickly turned heads for a very different reason. After marking his 44th birthday and Father's Day with his family, the future king returned to royal duties—and made a surprisingly personal confession about the emotional toll of climate change.

William joined Hollywood stars Emma Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch at a United for Wildlife forum in London, an initiative he launched with the Royal Foundation in 2013. The organization works around the world to combat wildlife trafficking, environmental crime, and the destruction of endangered species.

But it was William's candid admission about his own fears that stole the spotlight.

The Prince of Wales revealed that climate change has caused him "sleepless nights," admitting he has struggled with anxiety about what the future could look like. Yet instead of allowing those fears to overwhelm him, William said seeing real progress through conservation efforts has helped keep his environmental anxiety under control.

He also delivered a powerful message to business leaders, urging them to become the kind of leaders they admired when they were children. With technology and innovation transforming the world at an incredible pace, William challenged CEOs to use their influence to create meaningful change.

The event launched London Climate Action Week, with more royal appearances expected, including the Earthshot Prize assembly.

Emma Watson also delivered a surprising revelation of her own. The Harry Potter star highlighted the fashion industry's enormous environmental impact, pointing out that it produces more emissions than aviation and ranks behind only oil among major polluting industries.

Watson, who is also pursuing a doctorate in philosophy at Oxford, shared a hilarious story about mistakenly believing paparazzi were following her. After spotting photographers with telephoto lenses, she arranged a distraction and escaped through another exit. The twist? They weren't photographing her at all. They were waiting to capture a red kite.

Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch praised William as "a great guy" and urged businesses and individuals to recognize that they can still make a difference, even when global environmental challenges appear overwhelming.

With William, Watson, and Cumberbatch joining forces on the issue, the London forum delivered a clear message: the fight against environmental destruction is becoming impossible for the world's biggest names to ignore.
