Rowling seemed to get a kick out of the jab, captioning the post: “I’m here for ALL the spoofs.”
The parody video took a direct swipe at Watson’s podcast quotes, with the satirist exaggerating Emma’s words to suggest she “stands shoulder-to-shoulder” with those who “wish harm” on the author while simultaneously claiming to love her.
Rowling didn’t stop at the video. In a lengthy follow-up statement, she labeled Watson’s perspective as “ignorant,” suggesting the actress’s views are “cushioned by wealth and fame.”
“I’m not owed eternal agreement from any actor who once played a character I created,” Rowling wrote. “But adults can’t expect to cosy up to an activist movement that regularly calls for a friend’s assassination, then assert their right to the former friend’s love.”
Fans on social media were quickly divided over the exchange. While some praised Watson for her “maturity” and “grace,” others felt Rowling’s public mocking of the star who helped bring her books to life was a “bridge too far.”
