The recent rumors surrounding Harry Potter star Emma Watson’s retirement from acting have been debunked by her manager. Fans of the 30-year-old actress were stunned earlier this week when a U.K. tabloid decided to tell the world that Watson was through with acting. Her time as Hermione Granger was one of the highlights of the beloved Harry Potter series.
Watson’s career was kicked off in a big way by the adaptation of author J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world novels, and when the 8-film series drew to a close in 2011, Watson effortlessly transitioned into more dramatic fare. Free to create a persona beyond that of one of Harry Potter’s best friends, Watson worked with acclaimed directors such as Sofia Coppola, Darren Aronofsky and most recently, Greta Gerwig. As her acting roles expanded and grew, Watson’s interests began to move beyond Hollywood, toward the fashion industry and women’s issues, ultimately becoming the United Nations Women Goodwill Ambassador in 2014. She has spoken widely on the issues that matter to her, prompting many fans to see her as an inspirational figure both in her acting work and beyond.
Recently, however, Watson’s fanbase was shocked to hear that she was set to retire from acting in order to focus on more time with her partner, Leo Robinton. Thankfully, that rumor has now been debunked, courtesy of EW and her manager, Jason Weinberg. Responding to previous tabloid claims that Watson’s career has gone “dormant,” Weinberg stated, “Emma’s social media accounts are dormant but her career isn’t.”
This, of course, is excellent news for anyone who was hoping to see Watson continue to pursue acting, though at present she still doesn’t have any projects to report. The success of Disney’s live-action take on Beauty and the Beast in 2017 left fans hoping that a sequel with Watson was imminent, but so far, Disney’s very busy production schedule hasn’t offered any indication that a sequel with the star is on its way. At the same turn, there’s certainly no shortage of Potter fans who are hoping that at some point Watson will return to the role of Granger – whether in the rumored upcoming HBO series set in the wizarding world or some sort of cinematic return to Hogwarts.
Though fans who discovered Emma Watson through her work in the Potter series ultimately want her to continue (in one way or another) to be a part of the franchise, Watson comes off as far too engaged and ambitious to simply continue to portray the same character for the rest of her career. Her past non-Potter roles have proven her ability to act, and while she may not currently be starring in enough films for some, it is arguable to suggest that with so many career options, she’ll eventually settle on something worthwhile. Until that time, however, it’s great to know that she isn’t currently considering any kind of retirement from acting.

Prince William had plenty to celebrate this weekend, but his latest public appearance quickly turned heads for a very different reason. William joined Hollywood stars Emma Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch at a United for Wildlife forum in London, an initiative he launched with the Royal Foundation in 2013. The organization works around the world to combat wildlife trafficking, environmental crime, and the destruction of endangered species.
But it was William's candid admission about his own fears that stole the spotlight.
The Prince of Wales revealed that climate change has caused him "sleepless nights," admitting he has struggled with anxiety about what the future could look like. Yet instead of allowing those fears to overwhelm him, William said seeing real progress through conservation efforts has helped keep his environmental anxiety under control.
He also delivered a powerful message to business leaders, urging them to become the kind of leaders they admired when they were children. With technology and innovation transforming the world at an incredible pace, William challenged CEOs to use their influence to create meaningful change.
The event launched London Climate Action Week, with more royal appearances expected, including the Earthshot Prize assembly.
Emma Watson also delivered a surprising revelation of her own. The Harry Potter star highlighted the fashion industry's enormous environmental impact, pointing out that it produces more emissions than aviation and ranks behind only oil among major polluting industries.
Watson, who is also pursuing a doctorate in philosophy at Oxford, shared a hilarious story about mistakenly believing paparazzi were following her. After spotting photographers with telephoto lenses, she arranged a distraction and escaped through another exit. The twist? They weren't photographing her at all. They were waiting to capture a red kite.
