Emma Watson Reported as a Top Candidate for a Role in Marvel's Black Widow

It looks like Emma Watson might be trading her wand for some high-tech weaponry!

Marvel fans are sent into a frenzy following reports that the Harry Potter alum is currently the front-runner to join Scarlett Johansson in the highly anticipated Black Widow solo film. Since Johansson first donned the tactical suit in ’s Iron Man , fans have been clamoring for Natasha Romanoff to get her own spotlight—and it seems Marvel is pulling out all the stops for her big debut.

The project has been moving at lightning speed ever since Jac Schaeffer was brought on to pen the script last year. After an exhaustive search for the perfect visionary, the studio tapped director Cate Shortland to lead Marvel’s first solo female-fronted film.

While details have been kept under lock and key, a new report from That Hashtag Show suggests that Watson is the “top choice” for a major role described as a “kick-ass female Bond.”

The buzz on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok has been electric, with fans debating what a Watson-led Marvel debut would look like. “If Emma Watson joins the MCU, my childhood dreams are officially colliding,” one fan wrote, while another joked, “Imagine Hermione Granger with Black Widow’s combat skills. Game over.”

According to insiders, the idea of casting Watson has gained serious momentum with director Shortland, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, and producer Brad Winderbaum. However, despite the excitement, a formal offer hasn’t been signed just yet.

Watson—who most recently charmed audiences as Belle in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast—isn’t the only star in the mix. The report notes that several other rising stars are also in consideration for the high-octane role.

Among the names mentioned are Alice Englert (Ratched), Dar Zuzovsky (Hostages), and Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family). Both Englert and Zuzovsky have reportedly auditioned and left a “strong impression” on the casting team.

Interestingly, all four actresses are younger than the age range suggested in earlier character breakdowns, hinting that the role may have evolved during recent script rewrites.

If Watson ultimately lands the part, it would mark a massive shift into the action genre for the actress. While we’ve seen her face off against Death Eaters and enchanted furniture, a gritty spy thriller would be a whole new level of “badass” for the UN Goodwill Ambassador.

Of course, in the world of Marvel, nothing is official until Kevin Feige says it is. The studio is expected to keep their Phase plans a secret until after Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home hit theaters.

With filming reportedly scheduled to begin this summer, the clock is ticking to see if Watson will officially trade her Gryffindor scarf for a spot on the Marvel roster. One thing is for sure: the fans are ready for this crossover.

Unexpected Team-Up: Prince William and Emma Watson Unite for Change

Prince William had plenty to celebrate this weekend, but his latest public appearance quickly turned heads for a very different reason. After marking his 44th birthday and Father's Day with his family, the future king returned to royal duties—and made a surprisingly personal confession about the emotional toll of climate change.

William joined Hollywood stars Emma Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch at a United for Wildlife forum in London, an initiative he launched with the Royal Foundation in 2013. The organization works around the world to combat wildlife trafficking, environmental crime, and the destruction of endangered species.

But it was William's candid admission about his own fears that stole the spotlight.

The Prince of Wales revealed that climate change has caused him "sleepless nights," admitting he has struggled with anxiety about what the future could look like. Yet instead of allowing those fears to overwhelm him, William said seeing real progress through conservation efforts has helped keep his environmental anxiety under control.

He also delivered a powerful message to business leaders, urging them to become the kind of leaders they admired when they were children. With technology and innovation transforming the world at an incredible pace, William challenged CEOs to use their influence to create meaningful change.

The event launched London Climate Action Week, with more royal appearances expected, including the Earthshot Prize assembly.

Emma Watson also delivered a surprising revelation of her own. The Harry Potter star highlighted the fashion industry's enormous environmental impact, pointing out that it produces more emissions than aviation and ranks behind only oil among major polluting industries.

Watson, who is also pursuing a doctorate in philosophy at Oxford, shared a hilarious story about mistakenly believing paparazzi were following her. After spotting photographers with telephoto lenses, she arranged a distraction and escaped through another exit. The twist? They weren't photographing her at all. They were waiting to capture a red kite.

Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch praised William as "a great guy" and urged businesses and individuals to recognize that they can still make a difference, even when global environmental challenges appear overwhelming.

With William, Watson, and Cumberbatch joining forces on the issue, the London forum delivered a clear message: the fight against environmental destruction is becoming impossible for the world's biggest names to ignore.
