Salma Hayek Praises Her Director Angelina Jolie With A Big Claim

Salma Hayek says Angelina Jolie is the best director she's ever worked with. Hayek began her career on television in Mexico in the late 1980s before making her breakthrough in Hollywood in the violent action-western, Desperado. From there, her career kicked off at a brisk pace with her starring in films such as From Dusk Till Dawn, Fools Rush In, Dogma, and 54. One of her latest roles, the MCU superhero film Eternals, had her star opposite her future director, Angelina Jolie.

Jolie began her acting career at a very young age but it wasn't until 1995's Hackers when her career truly took off. She subsequently starred in hit films such as The Bone Collector, Gone in 60 Seconds, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. In 2007, Jolie made the jump to the director's chair with the documentary A Place in Time. However, her first narrative feature came in 2011 with In the Land of Blood and Honey. She has since directed three more movies: Unbroken, By the Sea, and First They Killed My Father. Now, Jolie is working on her next picture, Without Blood, a story based on the novel of the same name by Alessandro Baricco about trauma and healing after a war. The film stars Hayek in a lead role alongside Godzilla vs. Kong's Demián Bichir.

In a recent interview with People, Hayek praised Jolie's talent as a director. While discussing Without Blood, Hayek stated that Jolie is "probably the best director I've ever worked with. And I worked with some pretty good ones." Bolstered by Hayek's long, storied career, the actor's praise for her director is massive. Read more of what Hayek said about Jolie below.

"I've always loved her as a director, but I think this might be her best, or one of the best."

"It was a tough film to do. And then somehow, it was a joy to suffer so much [because]...she was shockingly good."

Salma Hayek Praises Her Director Angelina Jolie With A Big Claim

Hayek's comments are the highest praise any director could receive from an actor, especially from an actor who has been working in the industry for over 30 years. More weight is added to Hayek's claim when one looks at the long list of acclaimed Hollywood directors in her filmography such as Robert Rodriguez, Kevin Smith, Oliver Stone, Steven Soderbergh, Robert Towne, Ridley Scott, and Chloé Zhao. Placing Jolie above Academy Award and Golden Globe winners is an immense compliment.

Through Hayek's wealth of experience in over fifty films, she can most assuredly recognize talent when she sees it. Jolie has proven herself time and again as an actor, winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress with her work on Girl, Interrupted. However, with only five narrative features under her belt as a director, and with both Unbroken and First They Killed My Father receiving much critical acclaim, she still has decades to delight audiences with directorial work. Without Blood is currently in production and has no set release date yet.

Salma Hayek Tells Story Of Her Pet Owl Vomiting On Harry Styles' Head

Salma Hayek, star of The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, revealed that her pet owl once vomited on pop star Harry Styles’ head. Hayek first appeared as Sonia, the wife of hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson), in 2017’s The Hitman's Bodyguard. After being a surprise hit at the box office, the buddy comedy will be followed up by a sequel releasing in theaters June 16. The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard will see Hayek step into the spotlight after appearing in the first film for only a few minutes.

After starring alongside Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson in the action sequel, Hayek is poised to have a huge year. The Phase 4 Marvel film Eternals will see Hayek star as Ajak, the leader of the ancient superhero team. After Eternals debuts on November 5, it won’t be long until Hayek is seen in Ridley Scott's House of Gucci alongside Adam Driver and Lady Gaga on November 24. While making the press rounds for The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, Hayek has been the subject of various anecdotes, such as her slapping Reynolds shockingly hard, and now she has an even more bizarre story to share.

Appearing on The Ellen Show to promote The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, Hayek recalled a time in which her pet owl, Kering, landed and vomited on Styles’ head. Though she was hesitant to name the “very important celebrity” whose head was the victim of this unfortunate incident, Hayek revealed towards the end of the interview that it was in fact Styles, the former One Direction member turned Dunkirk actor and solo singer. Watch Hayek recount the incident below beginning at the 6:50 mark:

With The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard releasing June 16, Hayek is just about finished making press rounds for the film. However, it won’t be long until Marvel begins the promotional campaign for Eternals, which Hayek will likely be a huge part of considering her prominent role in the film as Eternal Ajak. Hopefully, Hayek will have more interesting anecdotes to share then that could include her high-profile co-stars like Angelina Jolie and Lady Gaga.

Hayek is certainly no stranger to action films after rising to prominence with roles in Robert Rodriguez’s Desperado and From Dusk till Dawn. Her breakthrough role then came in 2002 with Frida, for which she was nominated for an Oscar. While she hasn’t starred in many action flicks since then, she will make her highly-anticipated return to the genre with her prominent role in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard followed by her superhero debut in Eternals.
