Jessica Alba Makes a Splash in Netflix's 13 Going on 30 Remake

EXCLUSIVE: Jessica Alba (Trigger Warning) has inked a deal to join Emily Bader, Logan Lerman and Adeline Rudolph in Netflix‘s reboot of rom-com 13 Going on 30, sources tell Deadline.

Reps for Netflix declined comment. Alba’s role, and the sequel’s logline, are being kept under wraps. Jennifer Garner, who starred in the original film, is an exec producer on the sequel, which kicked off production in L.A. last month.

Released in 2004 by Columbia Pictures, 13 Going on 30 centers on a 13-year-old girl who magically wakes up as her 30-year-old self and must navigate adulthood while rediscovering who she really is.

Garner played the grown-up version of the character, starring opposite Mark Ruffalo in the beloved film from Gary Winick. After grossing around $96 million in theaters worldwide and achieving major success on home video, the film has endured for decades as a cultural touchstone, making a reboot inevitable. Amid development on this film, Garner recently exec produced a stage musical adaptation, directed by Andy Fickman, which world premiered at the Manchester Opera House last fall. Original screenwriters Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa penned the book for the stage adaptation, which features original songs by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner.

Brett Haley, helmer of Netflix’s hit rom-com People We Meet on Vacation, is directing from a script by Hannah Marks (Mark, Mary, & Some Other People) with revisions by Flora Greeson (The Princess Diaries 3). Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum are producing for RK Films, with Garner exec producing alongside Donna Roth and Susan Arnold, Scott Hemming for Revolution Studios, Alyssa Altman for RK Films, Marks, Gina Matthews and Ted Gidlow.

Alba comes to the 13 Going on 30 reboot after exec producing and starring in Netflix’s hit thriller Trigger Warning, which debuted at No. 1 in 67 countries and has been viewed more than 91 million times globally. Other upcoming projects for the actress include Maserati: The Brothers with Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins and Justin Chadwick’s The Mark. She inked with both CAA and Untitled Entertainment in recent months, as we first reported, and is also repped by Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.

Fans Alarmed by Jessica Alba's Stunning New Instagram Photo

With a growing number of Hollywood stars drawing attention for increasingly slim appearances, Jessica Alba has become the latest celebrity to spark discussion online over her physique.

Alba recently shared an Instagram photo dump highlighting some of her August moments so far. The first photo showed the actress posing for a selfie in a tiger-stripe bikini, putting her slender frame on display. She accessorized the look with gold jewelry and sunglasses.

The rest of the carousel featured snapshots of the Honest founder golfing with her youngest son, spending time with her daughters, relaxing in the sun, enjoying campfires with friends and sharing moments with her boyfriend, Danny Ramirez.

Jessica Alba Fans Point Out Her Recent Weight Loss

However, many fans focused on the first bikini photo and expressed concern about Alba's appearance, with some speculating about weight-loss drugs despite there being no confirmation that she has used them.

"Another one lost to Ozempic," one person wrote.

Another said, "Not another Ozempic girl, she was so fine."

"Jessica, we love you but don't turn into Ariana Grande," another commenter wrote, referencing the singer's own recent appearance and the speculation surrounding her weight.

Another fan simply wrote, "I hope all is well," while someone else commented, "Not looking healthy at all. So sad."

Others pushed back against the criticism, arguing that Alba's body should not be subject to public scrutiny.

"People shaming her for the way she looks need their head examined. It's none of your business and it's also the reason women are so self-conscious of their bodies. Mind your business and your manners," one person wrote.

Hollywood Stars Face Health & Weight Loss Concerns

The online conversation surrounding the mom of three comes amid a broader trend of celebrities being scrutinized over their changing appearances. Stars including Charlize Theron, Anna Faris, Ariana Grande and Jenna Ortega have all faced public speculation about weight loss, health or the use of medications such as Ozempic.

While dramatic transformations among celebrities have long attracted attention, recent conversations have increasingly centered on stars who were already petite and now appear noticeably slimmer.

However, without confirmation from the individuals themselves, speculation about the reasons behind someone's weight or appearance remains just that—speculation.
