Jennifer Lawrence is known for her “no-filter” honesty, and her latest revelation about on-set intimacy is going viral as fans praise her hilariously relatable take on Hollywood awkwardness.
The Oscar winner recently sat down with Josh Horowitz to discuss her upcoming film, Die My Love, and she didn’t hold back when the conversation turned to her steamy scenes with co-star Robert Pattinson. According to J.Law, there is a very specific reason why she prefers her leading men to be strangers.
“Because Rob and I did not know each other, which is kind of better, you know?” she explained. For Lawrence, having a pre-existing friendship actually makes the “magic of cinema” way more uncomfortable.
She pointed to her time in the Hunger Games franchise as the perfect example of when things get weird. Comparing her experience with Pattinson to her longtime pal and former co-star Josh Hutcherson, she let the cringe speak for itself.
“Like in Hunger Games, like me and Josh Hutcherson would have to kiss and that’s like… Imagine it,” she joked. “You know, it’s weirder and so yeah, doing it with a stranger is preferable.”

However, just because she and Pattinson were strangers didn’t mean the set of Die My Love was stress-free. In fact, director Lynne Ramsay made sure the pair broke the ice in the most “mortifying” way possible.
Lawrence revealed that before filming a high-intensity “naked sex tiger” scene—where the two characters reportedly attack each other like jungle cats—Ramsay signed them up for an interpretive dance lesson.
“We got to Calgary like three weeks before we started shooting,” Jennifer recalled. “Rob and I both [are] embarrassed very easily, and that was mortifying. It was, I mean, I’m not… a dancer, Rob’s [the] worst dancer.”
The actress described the lesson as a total comedy of errors, featuring instructions that felt miles away from a gritty Montana drama. “It was like, ‘now blow like a tree’—it was just so embarrassing,” Lawrence added.
By the time they actually had to film the intimacy scenes, the “tiger” movements felt like a relief compared to the dance studio. “We were just kind of like, ‘Okay, at least it’s not interpretive dance…’” she joked.
In Die My Love, Lawrence plays Grace, a young mother in rural Montana who begins to spiral into madness, causing her partner Jackson (played by Pattinson) to watch helplessly as their world unravels.
While the film deals with heavy themes of isolation and mental health, it’s clear that Lawrence and Pattinson found a way to navigate the “naked tiger” moments with plenty of humor—and just the right amount of distance.
