The Hunger Games star, , recently sat down with her Don’t Look Up costar Leonardo DiCaprio for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series. During their candid chat, Lawrence dropped a bombshell about a major medication mix-up that happened while filming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
As it turns out, Katniss Everdeen was fighting more than just the Capitol—she was fighting to stay conscious!
“I once took an Ambien in the morning, thinking it was something else,” Lawrence confessed to a stunned DiCaprio.
The timing couldn’t have been worse. The actress revealed the mistake happened right before she was scheduled to film a dance scene with the late, legendary Philip Seymour Hoffman, who played Plutarch Heavensbee in the franchise.
“I was hallucinating,” Lawrence admitted with a laugh, noting that the sedative definitely didn’t help her choreography.
While the story is making fans on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok lose it, not everyone on set at the time found the situation quite so funny. Lawrence revealed that her costar Elizabeth Banks, who played the famously punctual and high-strung Effie Trinket, was less than impressed.
“Elizabeth Banks got really annoyed with me,” J.Law added. “Maybe she didn’t know that I was on an Ambien.”
The conversation began when Lawrence and DiCaprio, , started bonding over their “obsessive” need for sleep while working on high-pressure film sets.
“You and I are both obsessive about sleep when we’re working, like counting the hours,” Lawrence told the Titanic star.
However, her attempts to catch some Zs haven’t always gone according to plan. She also recalled a stressful night while filming the spy thriller Red Sparrow when she made a different—but equally chaotic—mistake.
“I took an Adderall instead of a sleeping pill, and then I didn’t sleep all night,” she shared. “I was taking hot showers in a panic. I am not somebody who can function without sleep.”
The next day on set was a total “nightmare,” specifically because she had to deliver complex dialogue. “I had to say the phrase ‘Senate Armed Services Committee’ in a Russian accent. That sucked,” she joked.
DiCaprio, ever the supportive peer, laughed off the stories, calling those moments the “key screwups” that define an actor’s career.
The duo also shared a hilarious moment regarding DiCaprio’s most famous work. When Lawrence asked if he ever rewatches Titanic, he deadpanned, “No. I haven’t seen it before.”
“I don’t really watch my films, do you?” DiCaprio asked.
Lawrence was quick to fire back with her signature wit. “No,” she replied. “I’ve never made something like Titanic — if I did, I would watch it!”
