Jennifer Lawrence is famous for her relatable “oops” moments, but her latest confession might be her most wild one yet.
The Hunger Games star is currently going viral after revealing that she accidentally spent a day filming the blockbuster franchise while “hallucinating” on Ambien. The culprit? A simple morning medication mix-up that led to some serious on-set tension.
During a candid installment of Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Lawrence sat down with her frequent collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio to dish on the behind-the-scenes chaos of her most iconic roles.
According to Lawrence, the incident went down while filming a dance scene for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire alongside the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, who played Plutarch Heavensbee. Lawrence mistakenly took the sedative in the morning, thinking it was a different medication entirely.
“I also once took an Ambien in the morning, thinking it was something else,” Lawrence confessed. “I was hallucinating. Elizabeth Banks got really annoyed with me.”
Banks, who played the famously high-strung and meticulous Effie Trinket, apparently didn’t realize that her leading lady was struggling to keep her eyes open—let alone stay in reality.
“Maybe she didn’t know that I was on an Ambien,” Lawrence added, looking back on the awkward moment with her signature humor.
But that wasn’t the only time a pill bottle caused a panic for the District victor. Lawrence also shared a “horrible” story from the set of the spy thriller Red Sparrow.
Being “obsessive about sleep” while working, Lawrence reached for a sleeping pill to ensure she was rested for a big day. Instead, she accidentally took an Adderall.
“I didn’t sleep all night. I was taking hot showers in a panic,” she told DiCaprio. “I am not somebody who can function without sleep. And then I had to say the phrase ‘Senate Armed Services Committee’ in a Russian accent. That sucked.”
The conversation felt particularly timely as Lawrence and DiCaprio prepare to head to Europe to film Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated ghost horror, What Happens at Night.
The duo, who previously starred together in Don’t Look Up, will play a married couple attempting to adopt a baby in a hotel filled with eccentric, mysterious characters.
DiCaprio, a Scorsese veteran with classics like The Wolf of Wall Street and The Departed under his belt, reportedly spent time giving Lawrence advice on what to expect from the legendary director.
