During a sit-down for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series with her Don’t Look Up co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, the -year-old Oscar winner dropped a bombshell about her time in Panem. As it turns out, Katniss Everdeen was a little more “dazed” than “deadly” during one iconic sequence in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Lawrence revealed that she accidentally took an Ambien one morning, mistaking the sleeping medication for a different pill. The timing couldn’t have been worse: she was scheduled to film a complex dance scene with the late, legendary Philip Seymour Hoffman, who played Plutarch Heavensbee.
“I was hallucinating,” Lawrence admitted to a stunned DiCaprio.
While the scene made it to the final cut, the behind-the-scenes vibe was reportedly tense. Lawrence shared that her co-star Elizabeth Banks—who played the high-strung fashionista Effie Trinket—wasn’t exactly feeling the groove.
“Elizabeth Banks got really annoyed with me,” Lawrence recalled with a laugh. She added a bit of hindsight context, noting, “Maybe she didn’t know that I was on an Ambien.”
The clip of Lawrence’s confession has since gone viral on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), with fans divided between laughing at the absurdity and praising Lawrence for managing to film a movie while technically asleep. “Only J-Law could hallucinate while dancing with an Oscar winner and still make it look like art,” one fan joked on Instagram.

“I took an Adderall instead of a sleeping pill, and then I didn’t sleep all night,” Lawrence told DiCaprio. “I was taking hot showers in a panic. I am not somebody who can function without sleep.”
The exhausted star then had to navigate the workday from hell. “I had to say the phrase ‘Senate Armed Services Committee’ in a Russian accent. That sucked.”
DiCaprio, who has starred in several epics, empathized with her struggle, noting that he also counts the hours of sleep he gets during production.
The two stars have plenty to talk about as they prepare to lead Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated film What Happens at Night. In the ghost-horror flick, they play a married couple navigating a mysterious European hotel—hopefully with no pill mix-ups this time!
