“Tarantino’s been chasing you. He wants you,” Horowitz said, noting that the role of Daisy Domergue in The Hateful Eight (which went to Jennifer Jason Leigh) was originally written for Lawrence.
Reflecting on that missed opportunity, Lawrence didn’t hold back. “I turned it down,” she admitted bluntly. “I should not have done.”
However, it was the discussion surrounding Once Upon a Time in Hollywood that truly sparked online buzz. When asked if the legendary director wanted her to play Tate, Lawrence shared a memory of a particularly “toxic” moment in internet history.
“He did [want me],” Lawrence recalled, before explaining that a wave of social media cruelty may have derailed the casting. “And then everybody was like, ‘She’s not pretty enough to play Sharon Tate.'”
The Hunger Games star admitted that the passage of time can sometimes blur memories, but the sting of those comments remains clear. “I’m pretty sure it is true,” she said. “Or it’s that thing where I’ve been telling this story this way for so long that I believe it.”
With her signature wit, she added a self-deprecating twist: “No, but I’m pretty sure that happened. Or he just never was considering me for the part, and the internet went out of their way to call me ugly.”
