“Oh, no. So hyper. So embarrassing,” Lawrence said of her past press tours.
The actress revealed that the very personality traits that made fans fall in love with her—the self-deprecation, the pizza jokes, and the “cool girl” vibes—were actually a bit of a shield.
“Well, it is, or it was, my genuine personality, but it was also a defense mechanism,” she explained.
She joked that her internal monologue back then was: “I’m not like that! I poop my pants every day!”
The public’s obsession with Lawrence eventually led to a massive social media backlash, with many accusing the star of being “fake” or “trying too hard.” It’s a sentiment she now says she understands.
“I look at those interviews, and that person is annoying,” she confessed. “I get why seeing that person everywhere would be annoying.”

Eight years later, Lawrence is giving the “Yes, And?” singer her flowers. “Ariana Grande’s impression of me on SNL was spot-on,” Lawrence admitted.
The actress also touched on how deeply the public’s “rejection” hurt her during that era. Unlike other stars who face criticism for their politics or film choices, Lawrence felt the world was voting “no” on her as a human being.
“I felt—I didn’t feel, I was, I think—rejected not for my movies, not for my politics, but for me, for my personality,” she shared.
