Speaking with Brut at the Cannes Film Festival, the -year-old Batman star revealed that the secret to their onscreen chemistry actually started in a very unexpected place: dance rehearsals.
According to Pattinson, the production made the bold choice to film their most intimate moments immediately after the pair finished pre-production dance classes.
“You think it can’t get more embarrassing and they’re like, ‘Now, do it naked,'” Pattinson joked about the transition from the dance floor to the bedroom set.
Despite the initial nerves, the actor admitted the timing was actually a stroke of genius. “It was kind of a good idea actually because if we didn’t like each other, then it becomes increasingly more awkward [as production continues],” he explained.
Lawrence, , and Pattinson also credited a key member of the crew for making the NSFW scenes go off without a hitch: their intimacy coordinator.
While some old-school Hollywood stars have debated the necessity of the role, the Hunger Games alum and her costar say having a professional on set made them feel “safe” and “secure.”

“I think directors sometimes are a little bit scared to say, like, ‘Your body looks weird in this angle,'” Pattinson noted. “And if you have someone else whose specific job is to say, ‘Just move a little bit in this direction,’ you’re gonna like it more.”
